Most people may know Beck from his song 'Loser' which goes back to 1994. Maybe 'Where it's At' from his 1996 album, Odelay.
Beck accomplishes something that's rare. If you know his music you know no other artist sounds quite like it. He blends traditional folk-rock with beats and samples. I'd guess he often builds from drum and bass to create a groove than adds anything he can think of.
Sea Changes is a great album and a departure from his normal approach. Its more acoustic and orchestrated.
On the track Lonesome Tears he uses Shepard tones at the end to make the track feel like it endlessly continues upward. Check it out.
