Fast forward to a present singer/songwriter of big influence. Robyn Hitchcock is what I'd think of as a modern eccentric Brit, at least musically.
Robyn has the ability to create awesome vocal melodies on top of sometimes simple rhythms, sometimes complex picking. His songs can be light and delicate, dark and dreary, or anywhere in between. He uses words like Salvador Dali used paint to create a strange, surreal world of beauty and body parts.
He continues to put out albums year after year. Here's a live track from 1998. Michele & I were at this show in NYC.
